I am the AECOM Senior Vice President, Corporate Services, and when I am not travelling, I hang my hat in both the New York (Third Avenue) and New Jersey (Piscataway) offices. Exercise is an important outlet of mine, and I think combining it with charitable activities is a great way to do some good while running off all the airport food. Over the last several years, especially since knee surgery and three kids, my exercise has been limited to predominately cycling and an occasional bi or triathlon, but I am looking forward to my first marathon.
I am honored to represent the AECOM Corporate organization in the marathon on behalf of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. A few thoughts on the Maasai and the marathon:
Even if I never make it to the Maasai wilderness (which I hope to) I want to live in a world that still has those special places and different ways of life, and I would like my children and grandchildren to be able to see them some day as well.
I believe we should strive to “walk the talk ”as individuals when it comes to our commitment to “enhance and sustain the worlds natural, built, and social environments” and this is a great opportunity to do just that.
I also believe that, as leaders, we have a responsibility to lead by example and take on some of the challenges that others are willing to commit to. Right now I am certain that I am crazy for shooting to complete the marathon (and my wife agrees), but like so many other challenges that is what makes them worth trying for.
Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our efforts, and I hope that you will consider donating to the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.
